CHATHANNOOR:TOURIST GUIDE
Chathannoor is a town in Kerala situated at the Kollam District on the banks of Ithikkara River. It is around 50 km north of the state capital Thiruvananthapuram on the National Highway 47 (NH 47).It is one of the fastest developing towns in Kerala. It is a Special Grade Panchayath in Kollam District.
How to reach CHATHANNOOR:
Chathannoor is well connected to other parts of Kerala by road. National Highway (NH47), which connects Salem and Kanyakumari, passes through Chathannoor. NH 47 is passing through the centre of the town. Kollam Railway station is 18 km from the town and is well connected by buses. The nearest airport is Thiruvanathapuram International Airport. Buses plying between Kottarakara and Chathannoor are aplenty.

Chathanoor is famous for its religious aspects as well. Some of the famous temples and churches in-and-around Chathanoor include Sree Bhoothanadha Temple, Chenamathu Shiva Temple, Vilappuram Bhagavathy Temple, Uliyanad Maha Deva Temple, Chirakara Devi Kshetram, St.George Orthodox church, Christos Marthoma Church and Marakkulam St.Thomas Marthoma Church.Chenamathu Shiva Temple gives the aura of a typical Kerala temple with a vast paddy field near it. The temple is unique in its construction as it is sculptured out of stone.The temple was described in the 'Unni Neeli Sandesham'. The temple is known to have been reconstructed in the year 1268 A D. So it is under the control of Archeological Survey of India. Sree Bhoothanadha Temple's festival during March attracts lot of devotees because of the huge number of elephants and the unique feature of having "Eduppukuthira (Longest Nedumkuthira)".Vilappuram Temple is famous for its "Urulu Nercha" in the festival day during March. It is 3 km towards south from Chathannoor Town.
Marakkulam is one of the very beautiful places in chathannoor.Polachira is famous for its natural beauty. It is 4 km far towards south from Chathannoor and in Chirakkara Grama Panchayath area. The famous 'Anathavalam' (Elephants' Rest Place) is very near to Polachira.
